Lyft mixes up mobility

After taking flak for boosting city traffic, ride-hailing firm Lyft has rolled out an app feature that provides links to pubic transport. The innovation is part of an app update to help users find its dockless e-scooters in California.

Customers can use the app to get information on transport routes as well as real-time arrival data.

Lyft is moving beyond the car with its platform and recently shelled out around $250m for Motivate, operator of a number of large bike-sharing fleets, among them Citi Bike in New York.

The company is aiming to differentiate itself from Uber by offering ‘mobility as a service’ with various transport modes on offer.

“Transit, bikes, small electric vehicles, and infrastructure such as safe pedestrian paths and bike lanes, all play a large role in decoupling people’s right to mobility from car ownership,” says Lyft.
