The sentence “we are not alone” may seem more real in today’s world than ever before. No, not due to the appearance of extraterrestrial creatures but thanks to smart machines and sensors located everywhere”

Our daily, routine activities are going through makeovers and smart cities want to outshine each other catering to citizens’ needs. Is it going to change in the next 10 or 20 years?

The future is looking bright. There is no doubt. How bright? Well, that’s what you are going to find out.

It is predicted that as years go by, people will flow to the cities in large numbers. This very fact will make the authorities change many aspects of their, already smart, cities.

Are you wondering what will change? What problems may occur? And most importantly how will we cope with them? Read on and find out.

Circular Economy

The term that is becoming ‘the new black’ nowadays. Why? Because it advocates that we should cherish materials and products. Especially those which are finite.

Reusable materials are the future. Turning waste into buildings, cars and fuel is what will be happening thanks to sensors able to track waste with a potential of being recycled. This way, the answer to the question ‘what does the future hold for smart city?’ is: ‘We will live in developed a well as clean environment’.

Pneumatic Systems

Imagine buildings with pneumatic waste disposal. Well, you no longer have to, as they are slowly becoming an every-day reality.
Songdo in South Korea, for example, wants to become one of the smartest cities out there. They built their houses according to LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification, which means they are very sustainable.

The pneumatic system will be able to absorb the waste and send it to the processing centres, where it will be recycled. Easy, fast and effective on top of everything.

Carbon Neutralism

The future is supposed to be greener and better. To achieve that some changes must be quickly applied. Aiming to become carbon neutral is on top of the list for a number of cities, e.g. Masdar City in UAE or Malmo in Sweden.

Authorities of these cities decided to get rid of all gas-fuelled cars. Instead, all of their vehicles are to run on renewable energy or be simply electric. Thanks to this movement there will be no harmful fumes emissions and zero waste, since most of the new ‘fuel’ is produced from food leftover or solar farms.

Smart Mobility

The more people migrate to the cities, the more difficult mobility will become. This is why it must go through a bit of a makeover.

Thanks to smart technologies, people will have real-time data and information on the congestions as well as travel time, vehicles volume and traffic movements. And since all the information will be stored in the cloud, it’ll be easily accessible. Everything to help you save your quality time.

Optimised Traffic

Not only will the authorities have to think about simple solutions like applications gathering real-time data. What is more, they will also try to modernise the layout of the cities, to limit road traffic. This will be beneficial for people, as well as for the environment, since less traffic means fewer fumes.

The apps will also be able to show you quickest way to get to your destination and offer alternative means of transport, which will get you there even faster. What is more, these solutions will also save lives – ambulance cars won’t be stuck in the traffic due to these facilitations

Do you like what the future holds? We are sure the solutions of the future will be much more sophisticated than we can ever imagine now. After all, technology develops at an astouding pace, gradually introducing smartness into our daily lives.
