Traveling for business doesn’t have to be tedious, or stressful. By following our five tips, and building your own routines with a little spontaneity, you can make the most of even the most intense of business trips.

When it comes to traveling for business, it can be difficult to see it as anything but a chore. Where EHIC card renewal, passport control and jumping on a plane might sound kind of fun to those about to jet off on an all-inclusive holiday, there are many more of us suffering the need to do all of that, but with more work at the end of the flight. But all is not lost! There are ways you can keep the joy in traveling, even for business, and we’ve got a few of them for you right here.

Keep a routine!

Okay, so this might sound a little counter-productive, but believe us when we say that keeping some kind of routine can keep you sane. Now, we aren’t saying to treat business travel like any other day at work, but ensuring that you build a routine about where you keep all of your things will save you stress in the long run. If your passport, EHIC card, cash and other travel documents are always in the same place, you’ll always have quick access to them when you need them! No more standing in the middle of the airport rifling through bags that were once so neatly packed for your boarding pass!

Pick brands, and be loyal.

Loyalty schemes are becoming a much more common sight worldwide, and it’s about time that we all took advantage of everything they have to offer. Being loyal to a particular brand can bring you rewards that you would never have dreamed of, including free flights and discounted hotel rooms. If you build a rapport with airlines or hotel chains too, you can get added perks like early boarding, extra help, and even the leeway of rearranging a flight if you miss yours without the need to pay for a whole new ticket. Loyalty pays.

Master the technology available to you.

From apps, to headphones, all the way through to internet dongles and USB sticks, you can never have enough technology. Okay, you can, but there are a few things in particular that can help make your travel stress-free and all the more enjoyable. Take noise-canceling headphones, for example. How many times have you sat on public transport with a baby crying as loud as possible? Or have you ever just wanted to sleep when people are constantly chatting around you? Noise-cancelling headphones are the answer, trust me. And how about picking up a dongle or two? While most places will have free WiFi nowadays, it’s better to be safe than sorry. Having a dongle loaded with some internet will give you the opportunity to access the internet anywhere, with or without WiFi.

Make time for relaxation.

This is a given, really. If you want to enjoy your business travel, relax. Whether you spend a night in the hotel making use of their spa facilities, or you just go for a drink at the local bar, or maybe you even treat yourself to dinner at that one restaurant that smelled good when you passed it, relaxation is key. After all, that’s the whole point of travel, in the end. So set aside time to relax, and make sure you stick to it.

Get out and see something.

This sort of goes hand in hand with relaxation if you’re someone who enjoys sightseeing, but one thing that business travelers can often miss out on is the city they’re actually traveling to. You might be thinking ‘that doesn’t make sense!’, but it does. Every day, people travel to wonderful countries with stunning views and breath-taking sights to see and never actually visit any of it. Instead, all they’ll see is the four walls of their hotel room, the inside of a cab or a train, and then the inside of a meeting. Get out there, and see something. Make the trip memorable by doing the most touristy thing you can find, if you have to, but make sure you do something.
